Project Proposal
Executive Summary
Did you ever wonder how many families can’t afford medicine for a simple cold? Well, me and my group are trying to fix that. We are 4 Dartmouth Middle school 8th graders who want to help people who can’t afford health care, and trying to fix the high cost of medical expenses. Everyone should have health care, and we have got some ideas on how to raise money for the families in need. One of those ideas to raise money by putting on a fair. Our goal: 5,000 as a small start.
Statement of Need
People all over America are struggling because the medical expenses are much higher than they can afford. According to the Aetna Website, 49 million Americans have lacked health insurance in 2011. Also, 26% reported that they or their family members have had problems paying for medical bills in the past year. 58% reported foregoing or delaying medical care in the past year. The rate of health care cost increases above the general rate of inflation still. Escalating healthcare costs are also straining federal and state budgets. These are just some of the reasons that my group and I are trying to fix. We think that one of the ways we can help is to put on a fair to raise money for people who need a little more money for medical care.

Project Description
Our objective is to raise $5,000 and increase awareness of this problem. The methods of doing this is a fair with booths, a bake sale, games, and posters. The way we can evaluate how much it’s helping raise money for families who can’t afford high medical expenses is based on the amount of money we get from everything. It is also just a one time event.
Budget Plan
A teacher in England put on a school fundraising fair and spent $6,000 dollars for the fair. She earned between $7,500 and $37,500 from the fair. So, if we wanted to earn $5,000 from the fair that we are putting on, we would have to spend $4,000. The money will be spent on booths, bouncy houses and slides, cotton candy and popcorn machines, games, a bake sale, and a petting zoo.

Conclusion
As I mentioned before, my group and I are trying to raise money for people that need it to get medical help. We hope to raise about $5,000 by putting on a fair and this is necessary because the people that need it usually need a little more help taking care of themselves. If we help these families in need of medical help, people will be a lot happier AND healthier. And in the future, if more people notice this country-wide problem, then an entire population will be a lot happier and a lot more problems will be solved.
